Katherine Gressel, Project Director and Curator
Katherine Gressel holds a B.A. with honors in art from Yale, and an M.A. in arts Administration from Teachers College/Columbia. She has led collaborative mural projects in New York and San Francisco, and exhibited artwork at the Brooklyn Public Library, the Brooklyn Arts Council Gallery, Windows Brooklyn 2009, and smaller venues. She is a recipient of the 2008 National Academy Museum and School of Fine Arts Edwin Austin Abbey Memorial Fund for Mural Painting.
As a freelance arts consultant, her projects include serving as the first program manager for the arts education nonprofit Arts to Grow, a project manager for public artists Jones/Ginzel and Meredith Bergmann, and a development assistant for Creative Time. Katherine previously worked as Director of Partnerships and Development at the Urban Assembly School of Music and Art (UAMA), a small arts-based public high school in Downtown Brooklyn, and has interned and taught with Groundswell Community Mural Project, the Brooklyn Museum, and Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. Her scholarly writing on socially-engaged collaborative art has been presented in the CUNY Graduate Center's online journal and in the 2007 Social Theory, Politics, and the Arts conference at NYU, and she is a contributing editor and writer for the new publication "Street Art San Francisco."
